East Cheshire Hospice | Peak Proteins | Charity for the Year

East Cheshire Hospice – Peak Proteins’ Charity for the Year

This year, for the first time, we have decided to nominate a Charity for the Year and with the move to Tytherington a local charity that we would be very keen to support is East Cheshire Hospice. The Hospice is just down the road from our new office and laboratory space.

East Cheshire Hospice has been caring for people suffering from life-limiting illnesses since 1988.  All their services are provided free of charge to those who need them.  Less than 17% of the Hospice’s funding is from the government and the remainder must be funded independently through the generosity of the local community. £7,500 must be raised each day to just keep East Cheshire Hospice running. Services are delivered by a dedicated and integrated workforce of over 100 staff and more than 600 volunteers.

East Cheshire Hospice is committed to providing holistic care to patients and their families – medically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. Services extend far beyond end-of-life care, including the management of progressive illnesses and a range of help and support available to carers and families.

Services include:

  • 15 bed inpatient unit has unrestricted visiting hours and overnight accommodation for families. Children and even pets are welcome to visit anytime
  • Self-contained Sunflower Wellbeing Centre offering a range of supporting services for carers and families, including specialist sessions for different illnesses such as MND & Dementia
  • Hospice@Home team brings our specialist care into patients’ homes, providing out of hours support to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions and complement existing community services
  • Onsite physiotherapists, occupational therapists and a lymphoedema specialist, help improve our patients’ independence and mobility
  • Art therapist offers one to one psychotherapy, to help express changing and intense emotions
  • A range of proven complementary therapies to patients and carers to help relieve pain, nausea, and tension, as well as to soothe, relax and lift mood
  • Pre- and post-bereavement counselling support is provided for adults and children
  • Spiritual support is given by their chaplaincy team, embracing all beliefs and faith systems
  • In-house catering team prepare fresh meals for patients and visitors

Peak Proteins is planning a series of fund-raising activities.  A lot of our team are athletes as well as scientists who cycle, run and swim.  Being very close to the Peak District helps enormously. The team are also very musical and have a great sense of humour.  Fingers crossed for some wacky events too.  Some of us are looking forward to the bake sale!

We’ll let you know what we get up to in the coming months and we’ll keep you posted on our Just Giving page
