Principal Scientist in Recombinant Protein Expression

Principal Scientist in Recombinant Protein Expression

We have an exciting opportunity for a lab-based scientist with extensive experience in recombinant protein expression systems who is looking for a leading Principal Scientist role within a growing contract research organisation.

Peak Proteins is a vibrant and expanding organisation that provides research services to clients globally. These services include the production of bespoke, tailored proteins for a variety of different end-uses such as biochemical screening, biophysics, diagnostics and biologics discovery. In addition, we provide  a protein structure determination service using X-ray crystallography and a protein mass spectrometry service. Our passion is to work collaboratively with clients to provide the protein related tools and information they need to successfully progress their projects.

An essential element to these activities is the ability to express a wide range of proteins in mammalian, insect or E.coli cells. As such the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate significant experience in at least two different expression systems and how best to deploy them for different classes of protein.

The position is lab based, where you will lead the company’s cell science activities and promote effective team work alongside other staff in Peak Proteins. You will also be expected to devise suitable approaches to tackle new requests from clients, often at very short notice. Part of your role will be client facing where you will lead and ensure successful delivery of project activities for Peak Proteins. Good communication and team working skills are therefore essential.

Ideally you will have a PhD and have demonstrated your ability to work as an independent scientist with excellent problem-solving skills. You should have at least 10 years post-graduate experience and a proven track record of publications. Previous pharmaceutical company or contract research organisation experience is an advantage but is not essential. Importantly however, you should show the enthusiasm and self-motivation required to help drive the business forward and to develop your own scientific and commercial skills. Salary is negotiable and dependent on knowledge and experience of the candidate.

Peak Proteins is located on the Alderley Park site in Cheshire; home to a rapidly expanding number of small and medium sized life science businesses.
