Claire Griffin | Cell Culture Scientist | Peak Proteins

Peak Proteins Welcomes Claire Griffin

Peak Proteins welcomes Claire Griffin who joins us as a Cell Culture Scientist.

Claire studied for BSc at Salford University UK in Biology, spending the second year of her degree course at the University of Toledo in Ohio.  While in Ohio, Claire travelled around the North America visiting Chicago, New York, and Miami but her favourite place was Toronto. “We’ve just had a ten-year reunion as the 16th August was ten years since we moved over there!”, Claire commented.

She went onto study for a Post Graduate Certificate in Education at Manchester Metropolitan University, specialising in Biology.

Claire taught science at High Schools in the UK for 5 years before the call of the laboratory could no longer be resisted.  “I absolutely loved teaching and building relationships with my students and it was a very rewarding experience but I really missed being in the lab and having my own projects to work on”, she added.

Claire joined the University of Manchester as a research technician in a molecular biology laboratory carrying out research on the cellular organisation of mRNAs and translation factors into P-bodies and stress granules in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Claire joins Peak Proteins as a Cell Culture Scientist and will be combining her scientific and organisational skills providing much needed support in laboratory administration.

“Personality-wise, I’d like to think that I’m a very approachable and open person. I like things organised as much as possible (Marie Kondo is my favourite!) and I like to have a plan of what I’m doing but teaching made me much more flexible and adaptable as you never know what will happen next”.

Dr Tina Howard, Chief Operating Officer of Peak Proteins, commented, “The business has grown significantly in the past year and continues to grow rapidly.  Behind all the science we do is a considerable amount of laboratory administration which grows as we grow.  We are delighted to have Claire join us and her organisational and scientific talents will be put to good use”.

Claire added, “I’m looking forward to join the team at Peak Proteins and new challenges.  Everyone has been so helpful and welcoming.  I know I will learn a great deal from the team, expanding my knowledge and learning new techniques.  It’s such a small world though. Tomas worked in a laboratory linked to the one I was in at the university, but we never really spoke because he was finishing up as I started”.

Outside of work Claire enjoys seeing bands and going to festivals, cross stitching and embroidery as well as walking her miniature labradoodle Rigby to nice beer gardens. “I also enjoy watching cartoons and sitcoms because I find them super relaxing and listening to true crime podcasts!”
