It’s a ‘Rap’ on 2021…Says the BD Team

Have a rap beat in your head when reading it…. Blondie’s “Rapture” works…

 

Who would have thought at the start of 2021

That we’d still be discussing the viral damage done

But, as we look back to the start of the year

Our progress and achievements have brought us some cheer

 

With requests for projects doubling and proposals sent out

Adverts for new scientists regularly went out

With five new team members in the Peak Proteins crew

We’ve been able to deliver, what’s requested, to you

 

The Cells team had their work cut out with E.coli, insect, HEK

Running all three systems in parallel to meet the demands set

By the nature of the projects, and the goal to do our best

To deliver what our clients need, so they can do the rest

 

Over 260 unique constructs designed by the team

Were synthesised and purified, and some exposed to X-ray beam

The Atkas, pumps and columns were constantly in demand

With Coomassie gels a-sloshing to reveal the bright blue bands

 

Our mass spectrometrist, Rachel, was always to hand

To ‘fly’ the protein samples and identify the bands

That to us, were very visible and seemed so very clear

Were in fact the precious proteins; that’s what our clients want to hear!

 

An X-ray fragment screen at Diamond was a highlight for us

With BART the clever robot, loading crystals from the puck

The results were fantastic, and well worth the task

With crystallographers, Tina and Helen, having it all in their grasp

 

So with an action packed year, we take time to reflect

While looking forward to moving by the Spring, we expect.

We’ll take a moment to be thankful for the most important fact

That without you, our clients, none of this would’ve come to pass.
