Hazel Weir PhD | Scientific Business Development | Peak Proteins

We say goodbye to Hazel Weir

It is with a tear in the eye that we say a fond farewell to Hazel and wish her safe travels and a following wind with all her retirement plans and adventures.

We cannot begin to pay tribute to all she has achieved during her time here at Peak Proteins. She is a lynch pin of the organisation and will be sorely missed. Following an already illustrious scientific career at AstraZeneca, a speculative email to Mark Abbott (our founder and managing director) in 2017 ultimately led to Hazel taking on the role of Director of Business Development. At the time there were only 9 people in the company, operating out of 1 small lab and an office, and where we were sharing a cold room and tissue culture facilities. In 6 short years she has been instrumental in the rapid growth of Peak.

Hazel commented ” I have absolutely loved my time at Peak Proteins. I have learnt a huge amount about the CRO business and have loved the interactions and relationships with the scientists at our client organisations, but by far the best part has been working with such a committed and talented team of scientists at Peak Proteins. I will really miss them all and will certainly be keeping in touch”.

Not only are we 46 people today, situated in a bespoke facility in Tytherington, but our annual turnover is over 20-fold more than it was then; thanks in no small part to Hazel’s input, guidance and leadership. This quote from Mark serves to emphasise the point, ‘Hazel has made a fantastic contribution to our science, our business and the culture within Peak and more latterly in Sygnature. We will miss her and wish her all the best as her life moves on.’

The voice of reason, a gentle challenge where necessary, delivered with a wonderful, musical Scottish accent. Sláinte Hazel.
