More about Angela

Angela holds a Master's degree in Biotechnology from the University of Lisbon and a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Bristol. Her academic journey began with a focus on enzyme immobilization in catalytic hydrogels, working with polyvinyl alcohol and chitosan during her master's research.

During her PhD, Angela specialised in the expression, purification, and biophysical characterisation of the choline transporter LicB from opportunistic bacterial pathogens. She also gained valuable industry exposure through a PIPS placement at Novozymes in Denmark, where she worked in industrial biotechnology and enzymology.

Following her PhD, Angela joined Vertex Pharmaceuticals, where she spent nearly three years as part of the protein purification and biophysical characterisation team, supporting the development of novel therapeutic candidates.

Beyond the lab, Angela is an avid trekker, travel enthusiast, and passionate photographer. Most recently, she spent eight months travelling the world, immersing herself in different cultures and landscapes.
